Viking trefoil brooch and stirrup mount.
Incomplete Anglo-Scandinavian copper alloy trefoil brooch of Maixner's type G 1.3, group B. The brooch has three arms (two missing) containing a stylised leaf or 'tree of life' ornament set within a double rope-like border. The central panel where the three arms meet is triangular. There is a perforated rectangular lug on reverse.
Cf. Rogerson (1995) Middle Harling, fig.34, no.2, decoration very similar although Harling example has ring-and-dot. Late 9th-early 10th century. Included in Kershaw 2010 as catalogue no. 365.
Cast copper alloy late Saxon stirrup mount, Williams Class A Type 8. The mount is sub-triangular in plan with a large zoomorphic head terminal at the apex and with smaller projecting heads on either side of the base. The heads are very worn and no detail is visible. Down either side of the main body are a series of looping and bifurcating tendrils with end in lobes, probably intended as wings. There is a rearward pointing ledge on the reverse at the base, with two iron rivets through the main body just above.
