Roman Intaglio. Circa 2nd century CE, set in a later band in the style of a Henig type II ring. 8.46g. 20.90mm. UK ring size, K. US size, 5. . A heavy hoop with a smoothly swelling profile tapering from the narrow back of the hoop to a broad bezel set with a green and white marbled stone intaglio. The intaglio depicts the image of a Heron holding a fish in its beak. In Ancient Rome, the heron was an augury bird used in divination. Its presence signified the coming of an event.
