Roman Open-work Brooch. Circa 1st century AD. Copper-alloy, 20.49g. 54 mm. A large plate type brooch formed of a central lozenge cross in the centre of a circular frame. The frame has six tear-drop shaped projections around the outer edge and a pellet in ring motif at the point of each arm of the cross. Ref: Richard Hattatt, Ancient Brooches. p.343, fig.1003.
