Norman zoomorphic hunting leash buckle. Circa 12th century AD. Copper-alloy, 45mm x 37mm, 14.7g. The body of the piece is moulded in the form of a stylised animal head. The buckle pin hinges at the back of the head with the securing ring appearing from its mouth. Ref: P. Ellis, Ludgershall Castle: Excavartions by Peter Addyman 1964 - 1972: 126, fig. 6.2, no. 10.
